8 Proven Benefits of Lemon Water Everybody Should Know

You know I am one of those people that love to start the day with a fresh glass of water. It is one of my healthy habits, and I have written previously on habits by healthy people.

I’ve also written in how drinking a glass of water can help you lose weight.

What I didn’t know until recently, that adding a kick to the glass of water can lead to even greater goods.

I’ve heard a lot about the benefits of lemon water, so I decided to give it a go.

And what do you know, after a few weeks, I noticed even better results than I was having with drinking just a glass of plain old water.

So, what are the benefits of lemon water? Let’s examine.

Benefits of Lemon Water

Nutritional Facts

Before we get to the benefits of lemon water, I must explain what lemon water actually is, and what are the nutritional facts and benefits.

To put it simply, lemon water is plain old water mixed with juice from one fresh lemon.

You can add a slice of lemon or two as well for more decoration (some people want their food and drinks to look beautiful, not just taste good).

As for the nutritional facts, one glass of lemon water contains approximately 60 calories, 6 grams of sugar, 112mg of vitamin C or twice the daily recommended dose, 303mg of potassium or 9% of daily dose, as well as folate, vitamin B6, copper, magnesium, fiber, protein, and vitamin E.

Now, onto the benefits of lemon water.

Flushing Toxins and Aiding Digestion

The first and main reason why you should start your day with a glass of lemon water is to flush out toxins out of your body.

Drinking one glass of lemon water stimulates your liver to produce more bile, which starts aids the moving of compounds through your gastrointestinal tracts.

But not to get too medical on you, simply put, you flush out toxins more easily.

The acid from the lemon water helps your body process the good and healthy nutrients from the food easier and slower.

As a result, your insulin level is regulated, your digestion is better, you get more nutrients from the food you eat and you balance your pH level.

Bumps Up Vitamin C Intake

I don’t know if you knew it, but your body doesn’t produce vitamin C on its own.

And the fact of the matter is, we need vitamin C to function properly.

Therefore, it is important that we get vitamin C from other sources.

Luckily for you, lemons, the main ingredient in lemon water, are packed with vitamin C. One glass of lemon water is enough to satisfy your daily needs of vitamin C.

Fighting the Common Cold

As a side benefits of lemon water and an increase of vitamin C intake, you are better prepared to fight the common cold.

Especially in that winter, chilly months, it is crucial that you get a heathy amount of vitamin C.

Lemon water can be used both for prevention, but also for fighting the cold if you catch it.

Rejuvenation of the Body

Adding lemon to your glass of water does double “damage”.

For one, you are getting a healthy amount of vitamin C, but also getting insane amount of antioxidants.

For those of you that do not know, antioxidants help us in the battle with those irritating free radicals, the compounds responsible for aging and making us look tired.

Antioxidants help us look young, fresh, and rejuvenate our body and skin.

Rejuvenation after Workout

I know that I mentioned benefits of lemon water in the morning, but who’s to say you shouldn’t drink it during the day as well?

One of the benefits of lemon water is that it helps your body replenish salt, something you lose during workout sessions.

In addition to replenishing salt (something you lose because of sweating), you are also getting fluids to feel better after busting your butt with a strenuous session.

Boosting Energy Levels

I know most people love to get their caffeine to boost their energy level in the morning from a cup of coffee.

Well, for those of you who cannot stand coffee, or like to limit your coffee drinking, lemon water is nice energy booster as well.

Helps with Weight Loss

Drinking lemon water in the morning can help you shed pounds even without working out.

One of the compounds in lemons, pectin, is a type of fiber that makes you feel full for longer periods of time, which essentially, cuts down your food intake.

Reduces Pain

Lemon is known to work as an anti-inflammatory tool, as it helps dissolve uric acid.

I will go all medical on you here, and tell you that uric acid is responsible for pain and inflammation in your knees and joints.

Since lemon water helps you dissolve it, you reduce the pain from it.
