[True Story] How I Lost 40 Pounds in 4 Months – Risk Free

Let me start my story by saying I didn’t do anything special. On the contrary, I am just like you, like every average American.

I love watching movies, staying in bed, eating chips, pizza and I love candies. Junk food was my daily dose of survival.

I rarely cooked, often going out for lunch or grabbing Chinese food or any other fast food on the way back home for lunch or dinner.

Every time I got stressed about something, or I was in a panic mode, I grabbed a candy or ice cream.

I never, if rarely exercised, and walking was rarely an option. One day, I stepped on the scale and I was petrified. And then, I knew something has to change.

It all starts in the head

Hundreds of people can tell you that you need to lose weight, but until it clicks in your head, it is all in vain.

I’ve always stayed away from those motivational quotes, pictures and videos on Facebook and other social media. They just didn’t get to me.

My moment, as I previously wrote, came when I stepped on a scale, and the number I saw was 280 pounds. It was too much.

The first step I took was to get to the gym, a suggestion that came from a friend of mine I haven’t seen in a while.

He was tall, but skinny back then. Now, he had muscles, and that skinny guy was nowhere to be found.

He got me into working out, suggesting that the adrenaline rush you get after a workout is something priceless and cannot be described. So, I decided to give it a go.

The exercise regime

Motivation is just the first step towards success, but albeit the most important one. Once I decided to try exercise, I got a gym membership.

No matter what anyone tells you, the first day is the scariest.

You’ve got the feeling that everyone is watching you, and that they feel disguised by you, repulsive and thousands of thoughts go through your head.

Let me try and paint a picture for the guys out there, it is something like the feeling you have the first time you meet the parents of your girlfriend or future wife.

Now, with fear running deep into my veins, I decided to go through it and let it be. I stepped on the treadmill and started running. I am not going to lie to you, it was hard.

After a few minutes, I felt breathless, I had troubles breathing and I was sweating like I am out in a desert with a sweater on me.

But, since I was already there, I said to myself I will push through and reach the end of the tunnel.

I survived the workout, about 40 mins of running on the treadmill. After the first day of exercise, I was feeling good about myself.

The thought of surviving, and knowing I can push through hit me.

I continued going to the gym, some weeks every day, some weeks every second day.

After a while, a trainer told me that going to the gym every second day is the better option since you are giving your muscles time to recover. So I listened to him

Now, I must admit, I was pushing through the workout, and even though my muscles were sore, I continued going to the gym. However, I was not seeing results as much as I wanted to.

Exercise is just 50% of the success, the other 50% is diet

I was feeling a little down after a while in the gym since I was not losing pounds as much as I wanted. And then, I came to find out that working out is just half the battle, the other half is eating right.

A friend of mine suggested a diet for me. Now, whenever people think of diet, they think of starving.

I was like that as well. But I found out that diet is actually a food regime.

You do not need to starve yourself. You just need to avoid certain foods, include more vegetables and fruits in your daily consumption, and cook more.

My diet now consists of veggies, fruits, non-fat dairy, and lean meats. I try to stay away as far as possible from processed foods that contain a lot of sugar and salt that actually add pounds.

And after four months from the moment I decided to make changes, I see a lot of positives. I’ve shed 40 pounds, but more importantly, I feel more energized, satisfied, happy, and healthy overall.
