Fish Oil Benefits: 9 Reasons to Get Your Fish for Dinner

Ever since I was a child, my parents were making me eat fish.

As most children, I hated boned fishes, so my parents tried to feed me with fillets.

What I loved more was those fish oil capsules, that were just the right taste for me.

The problem with little children is that fishes are usually too hard for their digestive stomach to process, so we feed our children capsules.

But, as we grow older, fish becomes an integral part of our diet.

At least, it should be.

There are many fish oil benefits that will make you grab a fish for dinner tonight, and I will share some of them with you.

For starters, the question is, how much fish you need to reap fish oil benefits?

The recommended dose is two to three servings of fish per week.

If you are taking capsules, you need a pill that provides 700 to 1000 mg of EPA fish oil and 200 to 500 mg of DHA fish oil.

Bear in mind that 1000mg of fish oil capsules do not equal to 1000mg of omega-3 fatty acids.

Usually, you need two capsules to get the dosage.

But, as I always do, I highly recommend taking fish oil in a natural way, by consuming more oily fish like salmon, sardines, trout, and tuna.

With that in mind, let’s take a look at some of the fish oil benefits.

Improves Cholesterol Levels

To achieve a normal cholesterol range, your body needs fish oil and omega-3 fatty acids.

Consuming fish regularly promotes production of HDL cholesterol, which is the good cholesterol, and improves the healthy ratio of HDL to LDL cholesterol.

Fish oil also improves the concentration of triacylglycerol in your body, another way for regulating cholesterol.

Bone Health

The reason why our parents fed us with fish oil capsules and supplements as we were little is to promote healthy bone growth.

As you are growing and developing, you need much more fish oil for your bones to develop.

The problem with many people is that they forget that our bones need support even when we are older.

The common cause for arthritis and similar bone diseases is lack of fish in the diet.

Fish oil is extremely important for women entering menopause, as they do not produce as much estrogen and progesterone as before, which results with their bones beginning to thin.

Calcium might be the most important mineral for healthy bones, but do not underestimate omega-3 fatty acids coming from fish oil.

Mood

Nowadays, our diet is filled with processed foods, which results with malnutrition and us not getting enough minerals and vitamins.

One way to counter that is by getting more fish oil in your diet.

One of the many fish oil benefits is that consuming it helps you regulate your mood.

If you are experiencing mood changes (women in PMS do not count here), you definitely need more fish oil.

By consuming fish oil, you promote the production of serotonin in your body, or the hormone that people usually like to call the “feel good hormone”.

Anxiety and Depression

Fish oil not only improves our mood, but helps battle anxiety and depression.

There is a reason why people under stress crave for high carbs foods, since carbs promote serotonin production as well.

However, carbs do not do it in a healthy way as fish oil does.

Alzheimer’s Disease

The connection between Alzheimer’s disease and fish oil has been studied for years, and the results are consistent.

Omega-3 fatty acids coming from fish oil are essential for brain function and development, and they can prevent brain disorders and slow cognitive decline.

So, go get your fish today.

Eye Disorders

Another common disorder with elder people that can be prevented by consuming more fish oil is cataract.

Fish oil has been studied, and the results are that it can reverse dry eye, as well as many age-related eye disorders.

Anti-Inflammatory Properties

Inflammation is one of the most common causes for diseases nowadays, including gut problems, bacterial and virus infection.

Fish oil is quite effective at reducing inflammation both in the tissues and in the blood.

Regular consumption of fish will help people suffering from inflammatory diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, short bowel syndrome and similar.

Protection from Air Pollution

In an era where almost every big city is polluted, and there are more and more chemical compounds in the air, we need to improve our protection.

Omega-3 fatty acids coming from fish oil have been proven to improve your resistance to pollution.

If you live in a big city, you almost certainly like more fishes into your diet.

Improve Workout Quality

Last, but not least, fish oil vastly improves the quality of your workout.

I know from experience that the weeks when I consume more fish I am better prepared and suited for my workout regime.

Now, a common misconception is that fish oil and omega-3 fatty acids will help you build muscles faster.

The reality is that fish oil supports the quality of your workout in an indirect manner.
