What is the celery juice challenge?
The idea is very simple. All you have to do is drink at least 16 ounces of pure celery juice on an empty stomach for one or two weeks. Some people go for one week, some for two weeks, and others stop in the middle at 10 days. Basically, as long as it takes for your body to start healing, or as long as you can take it.
The idea comes from Anthony Williams, who introduced the practice of drinking celery juice many years ago. He suggested celery juice to people who suffered from auto immune diseases, including psoriasis and eczema.
How to join in?
Millions of people across the globe are joining in on the celery juice challenge. They are all experiencing the benefits of drinking celery juice on an empty stomach. All you have to do is buy huge amounts of celery, and you can start the challenge.
Make sure to wash and cut celery into manageable pieces, and then run it through a juicer. Start by drinking a glass of celery juice in the morning on an empty stomach. Wait 15 minutes before consuming anything else. Drink at least 16 ounces of celery juice for the day, and as you go forward, try to increase it to 24 or 32 ounces per day.
And of course, head over to Instagram and follow CeleryJuiceBenefits, and include them in your posts with celery juice.
What if I cannot stand the taste of celery juice?
There is nothing wrong in mixing celery with other veggies for a juice. However, the idea by Anthony Williams is to drink only celery juice.
With that in mind, if you find the taste of celery too strong, add one cucumber or one apple with the celery. As you get used to the flavor, increase the ratio of celery, and decrease the ratio of cucumber/apple. Greatest benefits of the celery juice challenge come when you consume celery on its own.
Another way to improve the taste is to remove the leaves of the celery before juicing. Leaves bring bitterness to the juice.
Are there any side effects?
Some people might experience little fatigue and feel thick headed every now and then. But that is to be expected, as you are drastically changing your diet. With that in mind, staying for longer than two weeks on celery juice is not recommended.
When you consume the same vegetables over and over again, you miss on unique nutrients found in veggies you are not eating. That is why after the two weeks, you can still drink celery juice in the morning, but get your other vegetable servings from other veggies. Mix up the veggies you eat or drink to get more health benefits.
Minimum of five servings of vegetables per day is recommended for adults. That is five cups of veggies per day. Drinking celery juice can help you pack more servings of celery at a time.
