Can Juice Replace Water?

Water is an amazing substance. More than 60% of our body is made of water. We cannot live without water for more than 24 hours. It is not surprising there are a lot of half-truths and myths regarding water.
By now, you have probably heard the recommendation that you need to drink between 6 and 8 glasses of water per day. A question many people have is that if they drink juice, milk, or other liquids, do they still have to drink 8 glasses of water? Or in other words, can juice replace water?
Why is drinking water important?
The important of drinking water cannot be ignored. Studies, and practice has shown that people can go days without food. Some people have gone on a food strike for days. Mahatma Gandhi went on a couple of fasts. His longest streak was 21 days without food. But try that without water, and you will die long before. The human body cannot go more than 48 hours without liquids.
Water plays an important role in supplying some of the essential minerals in our body. Lack of water can has impact on your skin, brain, and vital organs in the body. When you are dehydrated, you will feel sluggish and distracted. The simple reason is your body cannot flush out toxins from your body to regulate itself. When toxins remain in the body, they can cause all sort of problems.
Benefits of drinking water
The biggest benefit of drinking water is that it replenishes the fluids your body loses on a regular level. When you are physically active, you sweat. During the day, you probably urinate. Those are all fluids your body is flushing.
Drinking water replenishes those fluids. Water also helps you regulate your weight, flush out toxins, and ensure proper function of your body.
Benefits of drinking juice
In the past few years, juicing has become one of the more popular trends. Juicing is basically a way to consume fruits and vegetables in liquid form. The benefits of juicing are that you can consume a lot more minerals and vitamins than eating whole fruits and veggies. Another benefit is that consumers claim your body can absorb nutrients more easily in liquid form. And that is true.
Drawbacks of juicing
The downside of juicing is that you do not get the fiber from fruits and vegetables. Fiber is found in the peel, and juicing removes the peel. Drinking too much fruit juice can lead to weight gain, as you are consuming more sugar than you should. Fruit juices can be highly caloric as well.
Now, you do not need to completely eliminate fruit juices from your daily diet. After all, juices are a nutritious drink. However, you need to limit how much of it you consume, and what ingredients you use. Try to consume more vegetables and green juices, and less fruit juices.
Water or juice?
At the end of the day, juice can never replace water. Yes, juicing helps you improve your liquid consumption. Also, juicing improves vitamin and minerals consumption.
But one cannot just avoid water like that. When you feel thirsty, no matter how much juice you drink, you still crave for water. What do you think, why is that? Juices can never fulfill the needs of water in your body.
