Winter is almost upon us, and as the fans of Game of Thrones say it, “Brace yourself, Winter is coming”.
As winter is coming, cough and sore throat can be an irritating condition that can ruin your day.
Worry not, as I have a “do it yourself” remedy that can help you get rid of the cough, and help you eliminate mucus from your lungs in the same time.
Now, the basic ingredient for this recipe is honey, a compound that has been around for more than 6,000 years.
Egyptians, Ancient Greeks, Chinese alternative medicine, Ayurvedic practitioners have used it for centuries as an alternative remedy.
Lately, even the Western world is catching up, as physicians recommend it as a cough and sore throat home remedy.
And the best part is, even children aged one year and older can benefit from some honey.
Now, before I go over to my recipe, you can check my mixture of honey and garlic that will help you improve your immune system and prevent a cough altogether.
But, if it comes to it, and you need a quick solution, the honey wraps remedy helps.
As with most home remedies, the ingredients list is pretty simple.
All you need is organic honey, coconut flour, organic coconut oil, cheesecloth, paper towel or napkin and adhesive medical tape.
The preparation process is a little tricky, as it requires several steps.
The first step is to prepare a paste by mixing honey and coconut flower.
Make sure you coat the honey with enough flour so it is no longer sticky.
The next step is to add melted coconut oil to the mix and some more coconut flour to achieve that paste-like consistency.
Once your paste is ready, spread it onto a material of your choosing, and wrap it in cheesecloth.
Make sure to place the wrap onto the center of the chest, just below your throat.
To make sure it sticks in place, secure it with a medical tape.
Now, you do not want to walk around like that, so you can cover the patch with some clothing.
If you are using the do it yourself honey wrap for children, the best way is to apply it around three hours before bedtime.
Before your child goes to sleep, make sure to remove the patch.
For adults, the patch can stay overnight.
You can even add some mustard to the paste (for adults only) to enhance the effectiveness.
- Remember, sweating is typical and should be expected. Honey has a warming effect, and if you add mustard, you will sweat even more. Make sure to change clothing so your sweat doesn’t dry out on your skin.
- You can expect results and relief after just one treatment. However, it is best to be safe than sorry, so continue the treatment for one or two more days, just for precaution and prevention.
- If you are trying the remedy on a child, make sure your child is not allergic to some of the ingredients. Adults usually know if they are allergic to some ingredient. However, for your child, apply a small amount of any ingredient to the skin, and look for redness or swelling.
